Lord Nicholas St. John has become the target of unmarried London ladies since he was named an eligible bachelor by a ladies' magazine. He is an antiquarian and a hunter of men. When a friend asks him to track down his runaway sister, he agrees because it is a way to get himself out of town. Lady Isabel is the daughter of a wastrel who has made a habit of taking in women who were in need of a place to hide and has taken in the Duke's sister. She is also recently orphaned and doesn't know how she will manage to take care of her young brother and the women in her care. They find each other and very reluctantly fall in love. He is trying to get over falling in love with women who need his help and she doesn't really trust any man for fear of falling into the same trap as her mother. The ladies' magazine has given steps for landing a lord and Isabel does the opposite yet still manages to land her lord. Nice historical with well-drawn characters.
