Silla is grieving the loss of her parents in what looks like a murder-suicide when she receives a spell book in the mail -- in her father's handwriting. Nick has moved to the same town with his father and father's new wife after he inherits his grandfather's house. Along with the house comes some bad memories of his mother. They are drawn together when he sees her performing blood magic and it brings back buried childhood memories. The story is interspersed with diary entries from a woman who is determined to live forever. Excellent debut novel.
