Bonnie and the other investigators for PUPI are investigating what look like an open-and-shut case - an attempted rape thwarted when the female's companion kills the attacker. Only the the attackers and the girl are Talents and the companion is a kirin - who is a very highly respected fatae. But the case quickly gets much more complicated when the attacker's companion says that they were set up. Solving the case is essential for the long term survival of PUPI and to try to settle the hostilities between the Talents and the fatae. This sequel to [Hard Magic] was and excellent paranormal mystery with some touches of romance too.
