Merit is adjusting to being a vampire and Sentinel for her house but it isn't easy. There is a new drug in town that tempts vampires and brings out their aggressive side. Her relationship with Ethan Sullivan is tense. In the last book, they slept together and then he set her aside. Now he wants her back but she can't trust him. Merit is being offered a job with the Red Guard which watches out for the Masters. The Mayor of Chicago wants Ethan Sullivan to find out who is running vampire raves and to stop them or he will be jailed. And the Sire of the Chicago Houses comes to town and is rather one-track about the way vampires should behave. Merit also acts as a sympathetic ear when her friend Mallory runs into trouble with her training in sorcery. Action packed and with an ending that I didn't see coming. I can't wait for the next one.
