Breathtaking adventure! Great characters! I loved this young adult paranormal novel about a girl who was raised on Vancouver Island in a town controlled by the St. Cloud Corporation (medical research). Maya loves the outdoors and has a gift for taking care of animals. She goes to school with less than 70 kids grades K-12 and is best friends with Daniel who would be the big man on campus if the campus was big enough to have one. Both are still recovering from the drowning death of Maya's best friend and Daniel's girlfriend. They have questions. When a new kid comes to town and makes plays for all the girls, Maya is able to resist. She doesn't date people she goes to school with and she knows a player when she sees one. But her resistance falters when he tries a new technique - honesty - and she falls for a boy with secrets - secrets which involve her. Loved it but have to say that the ending is a major cliffhanger. I have more questions than I can count and I will have to wait for answers in the next books.
