Eve gets involved with witches and black magic in this story. It all starts at the funeral of a retired cop who apparently died of a heart attack. But when his granddaughter who is a student of Wicca is scared to death by some black magic users, Eve reopens the case. She is ordered to keep Feeney out of it which angers him and leads him to hurt her. Roarke quickly straightens him out by saying that he is a father figure to her and he broke her heart. It is also interesting the Eve is determined to be rational while Roarke is more open to the possibilities of magic.
