Eve is investigating a case where homeless people are being murdered with surgical precision and having diseased organs harvested. She also has a run-in with a fellow cop who had been jealous of her since their academy days. She makes Eve's life hard by filing frivolous complaints. But when the cop is killed, Eve has her badge and gun taken until the investigation is complete. Since her identity is wrapped up in her image as a cop, Eve is rocked down to her soul. Luckily Roarke and her many friends are there for her and she quickly finds her feet and her attitude again. Though it is very painful to read about her despair.
