This was a pleasant though unsophisticated story with a bit more telling the showing in the narrative style. Erin is a small town girl who is eager to get out as soon as she graduates from high school. She is a photographer who hopes her art (and good grades) will be enough to let her escape to college. She works at the local movie theater, has a twin brother named Nick, and an alcoholic father. She is thinking that nothing exciting ever happens in her rural Arizona town.But a movie crew is coming to town to shoot a new vampire movie. Some of the town people are hired as extras and everyone is excited. The movie's main character is being played by James Linkin. Erin is sure she has seen him somewhere before and is very surprised to finally recall that she saw him in an old television series that she used to watch with her mother. He hasn't aged a day.James Linkin is playing a vampire in the movie and is actually one in real life. He is drawn to Erin, in part, because she isn't fawning over him like most of the girls in town. Naturally they begin a romance. What makes this one a bit un-Twilight is that he seems more taken with her than she is with him. She isn't going to be making any quick decisions that might change her whole future. The course of true love doesn't run smoothly. They have to contend with his maker who is jealous of any human girl he wants to interact with, an admirer of Erin's who is takes some video and is determined to out James as a vampire, and James' need to drink blood and his preference to get it from girls who are attracted to him.I liked Erin who seemed very level-headed and mature for her age. I was less taken with James who seemed pretty immature and self-indulgent. Beyond his physical beauty, I wasn't sure what Erin saw in him. Readers looking for more books like Twilight are the audience for this one. They will enjoy the star-crossed romance.
